My name is Craig Wyllie ...a Melbourne Exercise Scientist and female fat loss specialist.
On the 2nd March 2002, I started work as a personal trainer in a local gym filled with confidence that I would make a

What most women all over fail to realise is that your muscles are a very important factor in determing
how high or low your metabolsim rises. In fact after the age of 30, your metabolism gradually begins to decline. One guess as to the only way to not
only slow down but prevent this decline...you guessed it muscle!
Women (everywhere not just those in my gym) were doing themselves a great diservice.
Even worse they were quite simply wasting
their time.
It seems that women had somehow got the idea into their head that the best and most time efficient way to lose fat was to spend hours
and hours doing mind numbing cardio on the treadmill/bike/ or x trainer.
That day I began (unbeknown to me at the time) the start of my mission to...

My time at university had educated me on one important thing, the ability to critically analyse and research the
multitude of claims, beliefs and so called myths in the fitness industry.
Something I still to this day spend a great deal of time doing.
Many
of these beliefs are still rampant in the fitness industry.
My very first day as a personal trainer I was confronted by one of theses myths.
I was talking to a lady about how changing her current routine of running comfortably at 7kp/h on the treadmill for 45 mins to alternating
between a 9kp/h and 5.5kph (i had yet to fully discover the benefits of intervals) would not only improve her running ability but more
importantly for her, increase her weight loss. And then it happened. My first encouter with a fitness myth, but what about...
The Fat Burning Zone...Simply It Is Useless.
The fat burning zones claim to fame was that by exercising at a given intensity you would burn more fat. Sounds reasonable,
but that is about as good as it gets.
Let me explain.
It is correct that the human body does utilize more fat for energy at low levels of exercise intensity. However, because it is a low level of intensity you burn less overall calories in comparison to a higher intensity activity which uses low levels of fat.
Lets look at two examples. In the first example you go for a walk, 80% of the calories burned is fat because your in the fat burning zone. Since it is a low level intensity exercise you only burn 10 calories (just as an example). So you burned 8 calories of fat. Lucky you were in the fat burning zone!
In the second example you sprint as fast as possible and 5% of the calories burned are fat as you are not in the fat burning zone. Sprinting is a very high intensity and therefor you might burn 100 calories (again just an example). In this case you burned 5 calories from fat.
Lets compare. The walk used more fat than sprinting 8 calories to 5 calories. Sprinting used a massive 100 calories whilst walking only used 10. Only the walk is considered to be in the fat burning zone
I don't know about you, but there is no way I would be wasting my time worried about whether or not I was in the fat burning zone or not.
Over the years, I became sick of women just like you missing out on the true fat burning potential of exercise.
I was sick
of all the lies being fed to women just like you.
At one stage even I (I am sorry to say) had fallen victim to lure of the miracles abundant
in the weight loss industry as I tried one of those meal replacement shakes. I shudder to think about it. Now if I can fall victim to these lies
